Darius arrives at Beauvais Airport with just a rolling suitcase. Without a car or GPS, he decides to reach La Défense on foot, crossing countryside, forests, industrial zones, and suburbs.
Along the way, he encounters animals, people, landscapes, and above all… himself.
Between burlesque and poetry, Animal Totem traces a lifeline through a France that is at once beautiful, weary, and resourceful.
Animal Totem is a road movie on foot, both burlesque and metaphysical.
Benoît Delépine, co-writer of Mammuth and Le Grand Soir, makes his first solo film here. It reflects his taste for the unconventional: a man alone, a suitcase, improbable encounters… but he adds a real serenity. Magnificent images shot in Picardy and Île-de-France, in a widescreen format that enhances nature and walking.
It’s a film that makes you laugh, think, and breathe, a film that moves at the speed of life. Its sparse dialogue and strong visual direction, including the presence of animals seen “as” characters or witnesses, make it a hymn to slowness, nature, and freedom: a modern fable, in a way.
Theatrical release December 10, 2025.
